In this 2021 paper, scientists use various methodologies to monitor activity of the Anar fault in Iran, including a study of how radon concentration in groundwater varies over time. The results showed higher radon concentration in the samples close to the fault, along with increases during the study period. According to the end of the return period of magnitude 7.0 earthquakes, and based on this study’s results, there is a high probability of a destructive earthquake in the near future.
